A few weeks ago I was on Pinterest and occassionally I see some really delicious things show up in my main feed. I just so happened to see some pastry dishes which got me thinking: Can you make muffins with strawberries? I'm no chef, so I don't know these things. But I was curious so did a Pinterest search. And lo'! You can! I found one for coffee cake strawberry muffins. Seeing as how I'd frozen some strawberries from a farmer's market outting earlier this month I decided to give it a go. :)

This was my batter. I used my mom's KitchenAid stand mixer for the first time. Let me just say it made things go faster! (It took me 3 hours to make these darn muffins though...ugh). I am a VERY slow baker. Actual prep time is something like 10 minutes with 30 minutes being the total time for these muffins. I doubled the recipe and altered some of the ingredients so this could be why my time was much longer. If you're more experienced it will probably go faster.

Next came chopping up the strawberries. Mine were thawed but still very cold from the freezer. I used A LOT more than what you see here. (About 2 cups worth I think).

I spooned approximately 1 tablespoon worth of batter into each cup. The recipe said it made 18, but that would never last in my house! I actually ended up having extra batter so I had to spoon what was left into loose cups to bake after the first large batch was done. I had 4 extras, plus the 30 I did first. I did go back and spoon extra mix into some of the cups. My muffins never come out evenly...

And here are my finished muffins! They actually look quite close to the photos from the recipe I'd found. And I am told by my brother they're very good too. I'm holding out until after dinner before I try one. But they do smell amazing so that was a hard temptation to fight. :)

I had a few susbtitutions for the recipe. it originally calls for milk and large eggs, but we only had jumbo eggs and I always use soy milk (organic) instead. I think because of that it caused the cook time for these to go from the estimated 18- 20 and spike to be around a half hour.

Last little thing I wanted to share with you all was the gorgeous snow "storm" we had on Saturday starting in the very early morning. I was still up around 3:30am so I snuck out to bask in the glory of it. I just love how super quiet it is during and just after a fresh snow.

My front yard looked so serene! There weren't any animal tracks to be seen yet and aside from the neighbors front lights being on there was no sign of anyone around. It was truly amazing. :)

I also couldn't help but to snap some photos of the two prominent
trees in our yard. There was at least 4 to 6 inches of cover by the time
I got outside. And it was still snowing and coming down harder while I
was out there. :)

Anyway that's all I wanted to share.
We are also expecting more snow this Monday through Tuesday. We may get
something like 2 feet worth. I honestly can't wait! It just hasn't felt
like winter until the snow came.

If you're going to get hit by the blizzard stay safe and maybe make some muffins while it snows outside.

Have a great week. :)

Wow, can't believe it's been several months since my last entry. I missed this place and you guys! 2015 is already here and it's nearly halfway through January. 2014 flew by so quickly it's hard to believe. I do hope you all had a wonderful new year and a lovely holiday regardless of what you celebrate. :)

I have been super hard at work these last few weeks. As winter has officially set in some time ago (and it's just so dang cold out) I'm no longer able to pop outdoors and take pictures. I've also come to see my old spot inside I used to try and take photos in wasn't doing my work any favors. So I've been making all these wonderful things and have had no way to share them. Only people who have seen me at my last few shows of 2014 ever got to see these new works! Recently I began to change all that.

I got together with my mom and she helped me whip up a nice big light box complete with 4 clamp lights. It's nothing fancy, but I have been so stoked to finally see that little glimmer of progress appearing on my horizon. Sadly it wasn't as easy as just point and click with my camera. It's been about 2 going on 3 weeks now I am just recently seeing results.

Below are a few little previews of what is to come.

I will be working to revamp my shop as time goes on and I look
forward to using some of my new techniques come spring when I get to go
outside again. :)
I've got many many craft shows happening. One is just two weeks away (I really need more hours in my day...) and I have not one now, but TWO shows in September for back to back Saturdays. The first one is one I just found out about and will be shooting my application off to later this week. The other one is the one I did back in May. I also heard back from the Wayne, NJ show I've been dying to get into and my spot has been reserved. That application will be on it's way later this week as well. I'm super excited! I'll be busy busy busy from now into the foreseeable future. :)

Anyway! I will make announcements for these independently as they grow near. Expect another blog entry for the August show on the 23rd either later this week or early to mid of next week.

Enough of that though. I know I shared this band a few months back. But I really love them and listen to my Pandora radio station for them almost every night I work my day job. They're having a concert at a great little venue on Black Friday this year. I'll miss going but I'm hoping maybe next year I can see them!

Anyway I hope you enjoy!~
This is going to be a nice, short post. I have been scrambling to find dates for craft shows this year since May. I'm pleased to announce that out of the four shows I have been working to get into(one being extremely last minute) I will be attending three

The first show I will be attending is in Wharton, NJ on August 23rd. So in just a little over a month. :) Wharton holds an annual Canal Day Festival and this is their 39th year! I'm super excited to be attending. There is going to be a huge turnout of people and this will be the biggest event I've done to date. There will be free boat rides, horse drawn carriage rides, a huge variety of music from classical to jazz to rock and more, as well as lots of delicious food, a traveling zoo, and of course a slew of craft and art vendors within the park. Keep a close watch on my Facebook and Google+ pages as the date draws closer. I will put up events and post information with directions and times. You can also visit the above Canal Day link to see their official website which provides this information as well. :)

Next up after August I will be revisiting the Skyline Lakes Fire Department venue in Ringwood, NJ. They will be having a fall version of their May Craft/Vendor show and Pet Adoption. The date for this is September 27th! Mark your calendar and remember to check my Facebook and Google+ pages as the date nears. I'll put up more information there with directions and show times. :)

And lastly I will be attending the Wanaque First Aid Squad Craft Show in Wanaque, NJ on November 22nd. I have never done this venue before so it will be a new experience for me! Again, make sure you are keeping watch on my Facebook and Google+ pages so you can catch information on show times and get directions!

The show I'm not sure on is the Packanack Lake Mother's Club Craft Show held in Wayne, NJ where I live. The date from info I have collected is Novemeber 8th. This was the venue of my first craft show. I missed it last year and I am hoping the delay in response from the new heads of the Mother's Club doesn't cause me to miss out on it.

Some other exciting news is that for the Canal Day Festival and Ringwood shows I will be bringing along my jewelry/accessories AND vintage items. This will be the second and third time ever that I'll be at a live venue with both my wares. I am going to try and bring as much as I can without crowding out my canopy. lol

That is all for now. If I am able to book any additional shows I will make a new update! Should any of the above information change I will also make an update to let you all know. I just sent out my contracts yesterday so I should hopefully hear back with confirmation before the end of this week.

Tomorrow is Music Monday so don't forget to check back in with me and see what my picks are for the day. Your hint is that they are some classic old tunes!

See you all in the next post. :)Threaded Chainshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15436275802820901660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8636690954193945612.post-60719645878079718502014-07-14T20:37:00.000-04:002014-07-14T20:37:28.772-04:00Music Mondays - The 1st July Edition!Hey guys! (Secret Awesome Chicken Recipe also Within)Boy am I so glad it's the weekend! This whole entire week has, regretfully, not gone as planned. I'm torn between whether I enjoy the extra down time to plan and do things as I like or whether I prefer being super busy like I was this whole week with pre-scheduled tasks. I definitely think I may just been leaning toward having a more "lax" schedule. It drives me a little batty when I reach the weekend and look back on my week and go "Nothing got done!!!"

Have you ever had just one of those weeks? I think you know by the second day in a row that it's not just "one of those days" any longer and it's just going to be a loooong crawl to the weekend. lol

Somehow most of my lost time seemed to have gotten dumped into food related errands. Monday it was a family chicken dinner fiasco. I have this fabulous recipe for healthy "fried" chicken but the prep time can be a little lengthy. Trust me though, it's more than worth it. I'll share the recipe at the end of this post in case anyone is feeling up to treating themselves! :)

The second food related blunder this week was on Thursday. One quick errand to two stores turned into an epic (mis)adventure. Anyone who knows me can tell you I LOVE Thai curry. A good friend of mine got me absolutely addicted a few years ago. So naturally when I found a way to get it at home without having to spend a fortune going out to eat I was ecstatic. Now I've sort of brought my family along for the ride. My mother tells me on Wednesday night about how a friend of hers was making this amazing shrimp curry. Naturally she wants to give it a go and I offered to grab the ingredients we needed since I was going out for errands on Thursday. The list was super short. But one, tiny item held me up for HOURS...Curry Paste.

Apparently anywhere you go in Wayne, NJ people will look at you funny when you ask them if the store they work in carries this stuff. Trader Joes was my first stop. They have a wonderful Red and Yellow curry sauce (bottled) that I adore. Sadly they don't carry the paste I needed. They are two very different things! So my next stop was all the way in the complete opposite direction. I arrived at our local Shop Rite thinking they MUST have curry paste. Their entire aisle 13 is dedicated to foreign foods after all. I believe I was in there for a good half hour and the first two associates I found to ask for help had no idea nor interest in helping, though the second directed me to customer service. I do work retail so I thought perhaps they could at least look this up in their system if they even carry it. Quite naturally when I have these adventures I get back to the front of the store only to find it completely swamped with people. Luckily I landed on the help desk line next to a lady who happened to know the manager on duty and called her over. Thankfully she was able to help me out. They didn't end up having any curry powder, but she did recommend one other place for me to try...Corrado's.

I don't know if you have one near you but Corrado's is a weird little market. They are kind of like a grocery/supermarket store only they have some more ecclectic variety. The selections are supposedly healthier or at least this is the purported rumor. By the time I leave Shop Rite I'm a bit disgruntled. Corrado's was back in the direction Trader Joes was, quite literally down the street from them. So back across town I shlepped....

I am not a frequent customer of Corrado's. I don't find their selection all that much better than other super market chains. They are also rather expensive. But as I search and cannot find what I need I do locate an associate. Just my luck they spoke very little English and I don't think he understood my inquiry other than to ask if he could flag down someone else to help me. So he does...and this guy didn't know anything either. He also didn't look like he worked there at all! Frustrated I just thanked them and left to turn down the next aisle....and lo! There was my curry paste no more than a few yards away.

So how was this curry shrimp we had? Well, sadly it wasn't all we had been hyping it up to be. I'm leery of recipes on pre-packaged food containers. They never turn out as delicious as what the recipe says it will. In the end it was, I think, the curry paste to coconut milk ratio that wasn't working out. I didn't get the taste of the curry as strongly as I did coconut milk. It's my opinion that you should avoid following Thai Kitchen brand food recipes. We even added extra curry paste than what was called for and it didn't help. We'll have to keep tweaking and I'll let you guys know when we come up with something successful!

But now for something that was definitely a delicious success. This chicken recipe I have is for making your own "breaded" chicken tenders. You bake it instead of frying. My entire family loves it as do my two best friends. These chicken tenders go excellent with French dressing or your fave hot sauce with blue cheese/ranch. It's a much better alternative to getting that pre-packaged stuff or getting greasy fat filled take out.

You will need:

4 cups Rice Crispies (I usually need at least double this)

1 Tsp Garlic Powder

1 Egg

3/4 Cup milk (I substitute Vanilla or Original flavor organic Soy milk, but you can use Almond or Coconut)

3/4 Cup All Purpose Flour

1 1/2 Tsp salt (I typically use Sea Salt but this last time used Pink Himalayan)

1/4 Tsp Pepper

1/2 Tsp Paprika

3 pounds of boneless & skinless chicken - Wash & pat dry (You can do wings or thighs too if desired)

3 Tsp Melted Butter

Steps:

Take the rice crispies and put them into a shallow dish. I use a pie plate. Take a potato masher and grind up the cereal until most of the crispies are broken up. There will be some powder but not all of it. There should still be chunks of the cereal. NOTE: The original recipe does not say to mash them. I didn't do this the first time I made this and I ended up using almost quadruple the rice crispies.

Stir in your garlic to the rice crispies you just mashed.

Take a mixing bowl (a medium one should do unless you need to expand the recipe for extra servings for large families/gatherings) and combine your egg and milk slightly.

Now add in the flour, salt, pepper, and smoked paprika. Mix everything until smooth. NOTE: I add salt, pepper, and especially the smoked paprika to taste. The first time I made this we couldn't taste the smoked paprika so I added a ton extra into the batter to bring out the flavor more.

Now take some baking sheets/pans and grease them with cooking spray.

Take your chicken (be it tenders, wings, thighs, pieces, etc) and start dipping them into the batter. Then coat them with the cereal/garlic mixture until they are covered. Lay the battered & coated chicken onto the pan and repeat until finished.

Optional: The original recipe calls for melted butter to coat the chicken with once you have coated it in cereal. I did this the first few times I made it but I always ended up needing way more than 3 teaspoons of melted butter and there is no noticeable difference in taste with it added.

Optional but RECOMMENDED: This last time I made this chicken my brother added extra seasoning on top of half the batch. He used more smoked paprika and some other dried herbs like oregano/basil, and some pepper and a little extra salt. The chicken with the extra flavoring on top had a more distinct look and flavor when compared to the ones not seasoned extra.

Bake your chicken at an oven temperature of 350 degrees for 1 hour or until the chicken is tender, no longer pink inside, and juices run clear. DO NOT COVER OR TURN CHICKEN WHILE IT BAKES. Just leave it be. The only intensive hands on thing about this recipe is the prep.

And then you're done! I like to serve mine with a fresh salad, biscuits, and mashed potatoes. I have been making this recipe periodically since October last year when I first found it in an article in Relish magazine. I promise you it's something everyone loves. We barely have any left overs and those don't last through the 12 hours after dinner. I'd highly recommend this to picky eaters. One of my BFF's is picky about her food and she really loved these with hot sauce. You can even take any leftovers and make your own crunchy chicken wraps for lunch or dinner the following day. If you can manage to keep your family from eating them all the first night anyway. lol

I've rambled on enough. So I will see you all in the next post. Have a fabulous weekend everyone. I know I will! :) Threaded Chainshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15436275802820901660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8636690954193945612.post-61592236286625858642014-07-04T22:10:00.000-04:002014-07-04T22:10:54.169-04:00Christmas in July! (Yes, It's That Time Already)Another blog post you say? What?! Sorcery! Alas no, not quite! But Halloween is really just around the corner. Soon, my lovelies. Soon. ;)

But is is July and it's the 4th so...Happy Independence Day!

I hope you are all having a wonderful and safe day. I also hope you didn't have to work today and got to enjoy the day at home with your loved ones. It cooled down here significantly and I am enjoying the reprieve from the nasty, sticky heat. It rained (thanks in no small part to Hurricane Arthur I'm sure). Despite the cloudiness the rest of the weekend will be sunny albeit hot and probably sticky again. But for today I enjoyed my time indoors and playing around in my shop. My family postponed our BBQ plans until tomorrow so it all worked out.

But with July comes other things. What you ask? Well, Christmas in July of course! I'm celebrating in my Etsy shop (and soon my Artfire shop) with 15% off everything: Handmade, Accessories, Vintage, AND Clearance! Just put in coupon code CIJ15 during checkout for your discount. It also applies to custom orders too!

I'm not the only one celebrating. Many, many shops around the handmade, vintage, and supply community are too. I took some time out of my evening to put together some lovely little treasuries. If you haven't begun thinking of what to get people this holiday season or you just don't know what to get for everyone why not take a look? There's a little something for everyone. :)
Late but Better Than NeverI've been so hard at work getting things situated in my shop but I haven't forgotten about my Blog readers. :)

Earlier this year, just two months ago in May, I attended the Skyline Lakes Fire Department Annual Mother's Day Weekend Craft Show. This was their 9th year! We were a bit nervous about the weather. Just like last year we were supposed to get terrible roaming thunderstorms and just overall generally crummy weather as far as craft shows are concerned. But the morning of the weather did a complete 180. It was sunny and there was a fabulous turn out.

My friend Michelle attended the show with me and was a wonderful help and great company during the down times. It was nice getting a chance to sneak away from the booth with her watching the shop while I was away. I hope she is able to attend my future shows with me! :)

Despite the scorching heat a lot of people showed up and the Threaded Chains outdoor booth was a big success compared to last year. I'm so glad to have given this venue another chance! I plan to continue going back and hopefully next year will be just as wonderful.

We did eventually get some rain but not until the end. I was so busy I didn't get a chance to take photos until just before the rain hit. I had very little time to prep the table for photos so some things are a little disheveled from shoppers.
I've made some progress in how to lay out the tables and I hope my next one turns out even better. I'm VERY pleased with the white table linens. They'll be good until I find some permanent cloth ones of the proper colors to match my shop logos. :)

I am planning to do a bunch of craft shows this fall as well. One is being held in Wanaque and I'll be submitting my application before the end of July. As I am very much looking forward to attending the Packanack Mother's Club annual November Holiday craft show which is held right here in Wayne, New Jersey, my home town! :)

There was also one other show I had my eye on so once I have finalized dates I'll be sure to update everyone! And as always you can tune in to my Facebook and Google+ pages for updates.
I hope everyone has a Happy 4th of July tomorrow and a great weekend. There will be a Christmas in July special coming up in my shop within the next few days so keep your eyes out for that!

I'll see you all in the next post.Threaded Chainshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15436275802820901660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8636690954193945612.post-7888257713656342552014-06-23T14:06:00.000-04:002014-06-23T14:06:27.259-04:00More Music Mondays - June 2014It's been a while since I last updated. My apologies! Things have been rather hectic. Threaded Chains appeared at the Skyline Lakes Fire Department in Ringwood, NJ for their annual Mother's Day weekend Craft Show. It was a huge success! Much like last year the weather forecast was for severe thunderstorms, rain, basically anything other than your ideal weather for outdoor craft show shopping. But by some small miracle the morning of the forecast completely turned around. While it was incredibly hot and humid the turnout was fantastic. I am hoping next year will be even better. I've got a few pics I snapped of the Threaded Chains booth that I'll post up within the next few days. :)

Other than that I've been working hard to try and get myself outside on sunny days to take photos of new items both for jewelry and vintage alike. It seems that much like our winter where it snowed almost every day our summer is in store for much the same only with rain. We are in for a humid, muggy summer...or so I hear.

If you haven't stopped by the shop lately please come take a look. A lot of items have been updated with brand new photos. As well new vintage and jewelry items are up. And there is just one week left to get 15% off your vintage item purchases of $10 or more. Be sure to enter promo code Vintage15 at checkout!

Now without further ado here is what I'm listening to this lovely, sunny Monday. :)

One further thing I want to mention is I am currently working on thinking up some things to celebrate Christmas in July which is also fast approaching. Keep your eyes peeled for that as well! :)Threaded Chainshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15436275802820901660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8636690954193945612.post-51995104850851213762014-03-10T09:24:00.000-04:002014-03-10T09:24:29.838-04:00Music Mondays - The March 2014 edition! So last year I wanted to start being more consistent. We all see how well that turned out...haha. Well, last year I shared a musician I really love on a Monday. I thought it would be fun to share someone I like to listen to every Monday or every other thereabout.. So since I'm getting back into this whole blogging thing and seeing how it is once again a Monday, I am going to share with you another band I have come to love.

Nothing fancy but I hope you enjoy it! :)
Almost a year...I really should hire someone to stand over me and smack me with a ruler whenever I neglect my blog!

Well I hope everyone is coming out of winter on a good note. I am getting back to my shop at long last and it's been wonderful. :) I've had a busy week and the weekend wasn't an exception. Before I get down to the real reason for this post I just want to let you all know I'm having a sale to celebrate my Etsy shop's grand re-opening! Just use the coupon code WELCOMEBACK when you check out and you'll get 10% off anything in my shop including made to order and custom items and anything else listed. :)

Yesterday was my dad's birthday. I took it upon myself to make him a cake. But not just any old cake. Oh no..this one was going to be themed! Anyone who knows me can tell you I'm not that great of a chef and I'm so-so at baking. Visually my food may not look spectacular or noteworthy but I pride myself on at least making sure it tastes great. When it comes to baking I like doing creative things. The last few years I have done special Easter themed brownies (seen below).

I thought that since I have so much fun doing these brownies I could try my hand at doing a fancy sort of cake. A shaped one. An epic one!

My family, as you know, is big on Halloween. All of us have a nickname those on the Halloween forums we belong to know us by. My dad's just so happens to be Vlad. He's made props before using the bat logo associated with that name and Vampires so I though it would be awesome to make him a bat shaped cake.

The original idea stemmed around having a two layer cake but shaping the top layer into the bat. Simple right? Yeah. Sure. We'll go with that!

So here we go. A short little step by step (with photos) on how to make a bat shaped cake. Just remember: I don't claim to be an expert cake designer!

How to Make a Bat Shaped Cake Mini Tutorial

Step one: Choose your poison. For my cake I decided on a butter cake. Just a store brand, off the shelf, box of mix that required the added stick of butter, three eggs, and 2/3s cup of water. Mix on medium or 450 strokes by hand and viola! You can pick any sort of cake flavor you would like though. :)

Step two: Evenly distribute the cake mix into two round cake pans, 8 or 9 inch in size. I think mine were 9 inches. Then pop them in the oven and bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Mine baked for about 25 minutes to a half hour.

Step Three: Allow your cake to cool in the pans until they are able to be handled by hand. Then remove the two layers and place them on SEPARATE plates. Pop the plates into the refridgerator for about an hour or so. This is supposed to help reduce the amount of crumbs and whatnot when cutting your cake and spreading the icing on exposed parts of the cake that will be showing after you've cut your shapes.

Step Four: Pick our your icing. For my bat cake I used whipped white icing and regular chocolate. Make sure you stir the icing in the cans before applying. It helps with spreadability!

Step Five: Once your cake layers have sat in the fridge for about an hour or so pull them out and grab a sharp edged knife. This will help make cutting your cake shape easier. I used a serated steak knife. Next I just traced a very light outline of my bat's body on one of my cake layers. I did NOT cut the cake yet!

Since I am terrible at evenly distributing cake batter into pans I chose the thinner, smaller layer to make my bat shape out of. Think of the body shape as being a snowman with only two sections. Make sure to include two pointed ears on top!

Step Six: Once you have a tentative outline on the top of the cake you're ready to start cutting. Try and follow your outlines as best as possible! Mine looked like this when I finished cutting it:

I removed the little top piece between the ears so you could better see my body shape and the head.

You should now have three parts for your bat: two wing sections and the body. The wings will be too large for the cake so you will need to cut them down further. You can just wing it on the one wing by freehand cutting it. Then to get a matching opposite wing place the two wing pieces together (with the top golden parts touching) and cut off the extra pieces of the other wing by following the edges of the first one. Keep cutting until you've made the wing parts small enough to fit on top of your cake and so they don't stick off too far (no more than a quarter of an inch).

Step Seven: Ice the bottom layer of your cake. For this I used my white whipped icing. Once done this is what it should look like:

Step Eight: Time to place your bat pieces on top of your iced bottom layer. Place the body on top first and make sure to center it as best you can. Make sure to try not to have the ears stick off the top of the cake too much. DO NOT PUT THE WINGS ON YET. I did this and had to pull them off the very sticky icing so I could properly ice the body of the bat. You need to ice ALL the sides and edges of the body and the wings would get in the way.

So ice the body of your bat first! Be careful when icing the ears. The tips are going to be thin and prone to crumbling off. It took me awhile but I was able to slowly ice them with little, tiny dollops of icing until none of the cake was showing from underneath it. Try also not to press to hard or you could risk breaking the ears off completely.

My cake looked like this before I had to pull the wings off and ice the bat's body. Make sure you DON'T DO THIS:

I used chocolate icing for my bat so he would be "black" or in this case brown.

Step Nine: Now it's time to add your wings and ice them. You may find it helpful to hold one side of the wing as you ice the edges to keep from pushing it around on the white icing or from sliding. It shouldn't slide too much, if at all, but it helps get the icing to spread better by stabilizing the wing as you go with your fingers.

Make sure to ice in along the sides of the wing closest to the body so none of the underlying cake parts are showing! I went the extra step and iced under the parts of the wings that jutted off the edge of the cake as well.

My cake looked like this once I was finished icing the bat:

Step Ten: Time to add a face and any other details you would like. I choose to just use plain white icing that was leftover to do my detailing. I used a small plastic zip lock baggy with one of the bottom corners snipped off to use as a piping bag. You could also use an actual icing piper if you have them.

Two little dots for the eyes and a sad attempt at a mouth later....:

Now you should have what looks like the ghost of a dead cartoon cat with a mustache! Darn....Might as well as one final flourish:

A bow-tie with a dried cranberry cluster for the center.

Now just place your cake in a cool place (I put mine in the fridge) because there is no way this is going to fit under a cake plate until people have eaten the extremities off. Haha. :D

Anyway, that is my attempt at making a bat cake. Thankfully my dad loved it. You can't get something like that at the store!

I hope you all have a fabulous rest of your weekend and enjoyed reading. Feel free to comment if you've got questions. I didn't do a very good job at taking more photos. Next time....

Let me start this blog post off with something I think that could be fun to do. I'm a very open minded person and I have an addictive personality. I don't often get to share my personal life with my fans and followers and I'd like to change that a little bit.

I'm always striving to be more open.
So to kick start this Monday morning I'm going to share with you one of my favorite musicians. I like a lot of music ranging from opera all the way to metal bands and Irish pub songs. I like to give everything a try at least once. This artist was introduced to me on a forum a few years ago and I was so blown away by this man's work that it inspired me in some of my story writing endeavors.

His name is Ed Alleyne-Johnson. He has a very unique instrument and it was one I had never heard of until I saw a video that was linked in the forum I belong to. I think his work is so haunting and beautiful. If you have an ear for classical pieces you may just like this musician and composer.
Here is a video I found just searching for his name on Youtube. I happen to love the song he is covering!

Here he is playing live doing a song from his own CD called Ultraviolet.

I would love to see him playing live someday. I'm certain it's a life changing experience!
What sort of music do you like to listen to? What music really inspires you?

Craft Shows from May

I've had two craft shows this month. Unfortunately unlike my first show back in March neither of these two worked out very well. I think the first show I attended on the 4th was just not advertised enough sign wise. There weren't any signs out on the main road leading to the venue. I also feel the crowd was just not right for what I was selling. I had more people wanting to buy my mannequin (Beverely) and her wig than I had interested in my jewelry or Vintage wares. They plan to have another show this September. I'm not certain if I'll attend again. There was very little structure to the show and it seemed a bit too much like a free-for-all. While I met some wonderful people I think a lot more planning needs to happen if future shows are to be successful. It just didn't feel like a vendor-friendly show.

My second show, on the 11th, didn't turn out well either. Unfortunately although this was the 8th year for this particular show the weather was forecast to have downpours and thunder storms for the entire day. Even though it didn't rain until the last half hour of the show I believe the potential for bad weather kept many from coming out. I am hopeful that next year will be better and I do look forward to giving this venue another chance. My only wish would be that they have a rain date for this show as it is unfair to their outdoor vendors that don't have the luxury of being located inside the main building. There was also a pet adoption held along with the craft show.

I had a lot of fun meeting all the dogs and cats looking for their forever homes. I was a little disappointed however that many of the handlers didn't seem to care where their dogs were dragging them around to or what the dogs were doing whenever they stopped to meet someone. One of the dogs happened to pee on one of the table skirts of the vendor selling across from me. Most of the handlers also would stop right in front of the vendor tents to talk with people walking by which I believe was a large deterrent to anyone who might have otherwise stopped by the vendor booths. It is difficult for people trying to shop while there are dogs jumping up their legs.

I am hoping that next year the weather is nicer and that perhaps the venue re-think where they place the pet adoption tables. While I support adopting shelter animals I think a lot more thought needs to go into keeping the dogs away from vendor booths. I certainly don't mind them walking by (I don't expect them all to be forced to sit still all day) but it certainly didn't help with sales for mine or any of the other vendors who were set up next to or between the pet adoption booths.

I did get the opportunity to snap some photos for both shows. I suppose that is the plus side to not having many shoppers coming by! lol

Here are just a handful:

These two are from my Lionshead Lake show on the 4th.

Pictured right is the jewelry half of my booth. We had it facing out toward the entrance to the parking lot where people would walk in.

Pictured left is a front view of my booth. We had two racks of vintage clothing to each side as well as crates filled with vintage fabric. The table to the inside left of the booth had all of our other vintage items such as shoes, sewing patterns, and miscellaneous accessories like gloves and scarves.

And lastly here are two photos from my Skyline Lakes Fire Department Craft show on the 11th.

Pictured right is a front view of my table set up on Saturday May 11th. I had invested in some plastic table clothes and skirts (because of the predicted rain fall). I also acquired some green shower curtains to hang around the back and sides of the canopy. These did an excellent job of keeping the wind from knocking my displays over. I will be investing in some actual canopy curtains so that my set up looks more professional. I also plan to obtain some real table clothes and skirts as well.

Here you can see my best friend Michelle who spent the day with me. She was a huge help with setting up. You can also see that I've ditched all of my hang tags for my items. There was no tangled mess to sort through when it was time to pack up and leave. I also plan to update my little price signs that were placed with some of my items.

I have a ton of work to catch up on this week. Also I will be looking for more craft shows to attend. Hopefully I can get more lined up very soon!

Have a great week everyone. :)Threaded Chainshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15436275802820901660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8636690954193945612.post-18348901699859831992013-04-28T18:13:00.000-04:002013-05-07T14:52:23.285-04:00Craft Fairs + Giveaway + Threaded Chains in FundraisersHey everyone! It's been my goal to try and write a new blog post every Sunday but as you can see I haven't exactly met that goal. LOL! Things were extraordinarily hectic the week leading up to my first craft show in March. Afterward I had a complete burnout for the majority of that month. But I'm working hard now at trying to get my name out there again and have been busy searching out more shows to attend. :)

Threaded Chains Giveaway

Let me first start with some big news. I reached my goal of 400 Facebook fans just two weeks ago! Since then I've gained an additional 50+ followers and as I promised on my page I am hosting a giveaway to celebrate!

The catch is that you must be a Threaded Chains FB fan in order to be eligible to win. I will award up to 3 prizes depending on the amount of entries. If there are less than 10 only one winner will be chosen. If I get 10 or more there will be 3 prizes awarded. :)

Hop on over to the Threaded Chains FB Page to read up on the rules. The giveaway starts Monday April 29th and ends on Friday May 4th!

Auctions & Donations from Threaded Chains

Sometime before my March craft show I was contacted by the New Jersey Passaic County CASA organization. They wanted me to donate some of my jewelry to their Tricky Tray & Dinner fundraiser that will be held June 11th (a Tuesday). I gladly accepted and I will be donating about $50 worth of jewelry to the Tricky Tray. If you live in or near Passaic County in northern New Jersey and are interested in attending this fundraiser please head over to the Passaic County CASA website for information. Tickets are $40 but the money goes to a great cause. You get a full sheet of raffle tickets, a special door prize ticket, and also dinner for the admittance fee. My jewelry will be in a basket all on it's own so please be certain to check it out! :)

Rosie the Cat's Fundraiser Auction:

Lastly for fundraisers I stumbled on a post in my news feed on FB the other day. Through one of my fellow crafters I found out about a beautiful tortoiseshell 4 month old cat named Rosie. She has luxating patella (a rare condition for cats where the knee caps rotate out of place) which can cause pain and in Rosie's condition will eventually lead to her losing both of her back legs at some point in her life. To prevent this there is a surgery that costs $3,000 PER leg. Being an animal lover I am going to be donating several items to an Auction being held by Rosie's owner on a FB page made specifically for Rosie's cause. The auction will be held on Rosie's FB page Wednesday May 15th through Sunday of the same week.

Please click on the below links to donate to Rosie's cause, attend the auction, or just to get more information:
Craft Fairs

Last but not least I have been super busy trying to find new craft shows to attend in my area. I found a lot but I have to tidy up some things for my business before I can attend them. However, that hasn't stopped me from scouting out venues in the meantime. :)

Today I went to the Adorno Father's Fair in Ramsey, NJ (in Northern Jersey in Passaic County). I wasn't sure what to expect because this venue has both Crafters/Artists, Re-sellers, and Antique sellers. I met so many fellow crafters though and made a few purchases. I had so much fun doing some in person networking and exchanging my business cards when appropriate of course. ;)

Most of the handmade sellers I spoke with told me this was their first time at the show but one did tell me she was informed from other vendors that they do very well at this particular show. I hope to be a part of it in October but if not I'll at least attend as a customer and check out the tables and maybe meet some new friends again.

My purchases for the day came from one lovely seller who redecorates recycled bottles with gorgeous stones, shells, and pebbeles for a nifty upcycled vase or shelf decoration. She also had these smooth, oval somewhat flat stones drawn on with stained glass paint. There were a few tiny ones that I couldn't resist snatching up. They had some inspirational things written/drawn on them that I just had to have. I also made a purchase from Soaps for a Cause, a nice girl and guy were attending the booth selling handmade all natural soaps. A portion of their proceeds goes to helping Uganda get clean water and help with sanitation issues. As well the little info card that comes with the soap is loaded with real seedlings. You just wet the paper, plant it, and herbs will grow. I love eco friendly! :D I bought a bar for my mother, who came to the event with me, as an early Mother's Day gift since she loves gardening. We have no idea what herbs will grow but we can't wait to see!

My last purchase was from two women attending a booth selling hot sauce. The one woman's son and the other's daughter started this little business called Heartbreaking Dawns. They were letting people sample the hot sauces on display and being a lover of spicy food I had to try it. I came back before I left the fair and bought their second hottest blend. It's made with ghost pepper and I can't wait to make buffalo chicken with it! Check out the Heartbreaking Dawns website for more info on their hot sauces. :)

Upcoming Fairs for Threaded Chains:

I have lined up one more show so far! I will definitely be attending the Lionshead Lake Arts/Crafts Fair in Wayne, NJ on May 4th. The show starts at 9 am and ends at 4 pm. If you live in or around Passaic County NJ please stop by and say hello! There is also going to be a Garage sale held the same day at the same location. So far there looks to be approximately 7 Crafts vendors with a total of 20 "booths" total including the garage salers. I hope to see you there! :) Checkout the Lionshead Lake website for information or directions.

That's all for now. I will keep everyone posted on any future events I attend. I also hope to be showcasing some sellers that I get to meet from these events. :)

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
In order to feature all these great treasuries I used a Craft Cult
widget maker. It was SUPER helpful in making really short codes that
didn't clog up my text box when writing this blog entry and making
relatively small but still easily seen Treasury images. Want to make
your own treasury previews? Check out the Craft Cult Treasury Tab. I meant to have part 2 of my V-Day treasuries posted but I'd never used the scheduling feature with blogspot before. Silly me didn't know I had to hit the publish button....I scheduled it to post for tomorrow, February 18th. It will be late but better late than never right?

Anyway I've been prepping very hard for a craft show I'll be attending on March 2nd. I have never been to one before so I'm working very hard to get new items made. The show was originally supposed to be in November of last year, but because of Hurricane Sandy and the destruction it wrecked in New Jersey (and the fact there were so many trees and power lines down) the show was postponed to March 2nd.

It's going to be a tiny venue with only about 20 vendors including myself. It's right here in my hometown so it will be so nice getting the chance to get my feet wet so to speak without having to be far from home or having a huge show to worry about. I've got 2 weeks left for my preparations...I'm so nervous!

If anyone lives in or around the Wayne, New Jersey area and is familiar with the Packanack Lake area of Wayne, the show is being hosted at the Packanack Lake Club House. I'll be posting up the actual address and street name on my Facebook so if anyone is interested in attending or coming by to see me please watch my Facebook page for that post.

In other news I've been contact by the New Jersey Passaic County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children organization. They'd like for me to donate some of my jewelry to their tricky tray. Once my craft show is over and I can have a chance to recuperate from that I'll be making up a nice basket for them to raffle off for their show. It is a dinner and a tricky tray so for $40 you get both dinner and a sheet of raffle tickets to put into the baskets. My shop name and web address will be printed on all the pamphlets they hand out and I've gotten permission to include a stack of my business cards for them to put on the table next to my basket. I'm going to be trying to make some jewelry sets for my basket or some one of a kind mixed pieces, maybe even a little of both, to put into my donation.

If you live in the Northern New Jersey area and are interested in attending the event you can e-mail Crosby at crosby@passaiccountycasa.org. It's still very early yet so I don't think they have picked the venue but I can tell you that the date for this is June 11th of this year, a Tuesday.

That's all for now! I hope everyone is enjoying their three day weekend. :) For my next blog I think I'll do a nice little feature or something. (I love having an excuse to poke around on Etsy for neat things).

Have a great week everyone!Threaded Chainshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15436275802820901660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8636690954193945612.post-41320091418802088092013-02-08T19:45:00.000-05:002013-02-08T19:45:45.228-05:00Last Minute Valentines Gifts Part 1I know this post is so late. ): I apologize, the week was SO busy! I didn't get much response from people when I was asking others to share their treasuries to be featured so I had to find my own. I had fun looking through all these. You can bet I tweeted each and every one! :)

Unfortunately as well blogger won't let me post all of the treasuries I chose in one post. So listed below is just the first half of this feature! I will post the next half tomorrow so as to not spam you all. Haha. :D

Anyway I tried to find a nice mix of things. Not everyone is shopping for a woman and not everyone is shopping for a guy. Some people shop for their pets and some shop for themselves. Some people love red and some people really want non-traditional gifts for holidays. Hopefully these Etsy treasuries help you to find the perfect gift for Valentines Day. You only have 6 days left!

Warning: This page is GRAPHICALLY HEAVY please give it time to load! There are 6 treasuries listed here! It may take a minute or two to load fully.
It's been awhile since my last blog post. So much has happened since then. I last updated about my craft show prep...well, when Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast it changed those plans. The craft show was moved to March 2nd so I have been thankfully given a few extra months (since the hurricane anyway) for me to prep. With just over a month left to prepare I'm feeling the heat but I'm confident I can do it! :)

Also around the corner is Valentines Day. I was never too into it as a kid and I've never really had a Valentine, but now that I'm older I find myself falling in love with this holiday. It allows me to step out of my comfort zone when making jewelry. I'll be the first to admit that pink is not a color I wear and I think sometimes that bit of predjudice for the color leaks over into my creativity. But for Valentine's Day I can go nuts.

It's not just me though. I've found a bunch of nice items on Etsy that I just love. :)

I used to stay away from pink colored things like this when I was younger, but these sweet pretzel treats are just too good to pass up now. Check out TheSugarForest for these and more goodies.

I'm such a sucker for bath and body products. I covet the stuff in any color, shape, or form. These blue soap hearts are so pretty and there is plenty more where these come from at Bmbyx. And if blue isn't your thing why not check out the bubble bath, body lotion, and heart soap gift set? CarriesBerries carries that and a variety of items just like it.

Of course being a handmade fanatic I love handmade cards. There is nothing better than seeing such beautiful creations I once thought could only be found at a store offering mass produced things. These are some really adorable and creative designs. The kitty one is my favorite.

If you'd like to see more check out KidCardDesigns for more like the butterfly card. Love that robot? Sentimentsbydesign has many more gorgeous creations like it. And for my personal favorite, check out AnnKayGreetingCards for more.

I would love to see any V-Day creations you guys have made or have found across Etsy or Artfire. :) My shop also has some V-Day items, here are just a few:

And last just a bit of news. I fell down our basement stairs yesterday. It was so not fun. ): I am thankfully alright and nothing seems broken. I am able to walk on the leg I injured and am now just tending to some minor scrapes and a very swollen foot/leg. Hopefully there won't be any hospital trips in my near future. I also found out yesterday (just before I fell down the stairs) that the United States Postal Service (USPS) has hiked up their shipping prices again, effective starting today. I sincerely apologize for all the inconvenience this will cause to my International shoppers/fans. International rates have just about doubled. So again, I do apologize for the inconvenience this will cause. I am going to be looking into seeing whether or not UPS or Fedex offers anything cheaper but I'm not sure that they do.

Anyway, have a great Sunday night! :)

Believe it or not I am still trying to acquire some supplies for the show.

I'm still working on the shop and it's definitely tough trying to get things listed on Etsy while thinking ahead for what I will need come November 3rd. One of the things I have been stressing over is prepping one of my mannequins. I was lucky enough to acquire a full torso with head and realistic face through a Haunter (Halloween) friend. She came to me bald and has some minor damage plus paint peeling. My dilemma has been agonizing over whether I want to tackle trying to re-paint her. I'm just too in love with her current face and know that I can't make an exact re-painted copy of it (since every artist's style is different).

Instead, I opted to try and find a wig that could cover the paint peeling on her forehead and just a few weeks ago I found the perfect one. It shipped from China and I was worried it wouldn't arrive, but it just got here two days ago.

With all the rain we've had I had I wasn't able to get outside to take pictures of her until today.

My biggest concern is covering up her breasts. The person who owned her before me painted on nipples so I can't leave her naked. She also, sadly, did not come with arms or legs, so I have had a hard time locating a shirt for her to cover the holes in her arm sockets.

I'm definitely very happy with how she is coming along. I've seen many mannequins that don't have nearly as nice a face as this one does. A lot of the ones I have seen have that dopey/droopy eyed face coupled with an elongated facial structure that makes them look less realistic. Sadly, though, she still has no name.

In regards to shirts I found this awesome shop on Etsy called Couth Clothing. I've been talking with the shop owner, Daniel, and she's been a pleasure to work with. I've already picked out this shirt and this sheer top. Please go check out Daniel's Etsy shop, I assure you that you won't be disappointed! I'm also super excited to be show casing another Etsy artisan's work in my craft show display to help me in promoting my jewelry and accessories.

In other news please be aware that come November 3rd I will be putting my shops on Vacation. So if you have had your eye on any items in the shop don't hesitate! Whatever sells at the show will be removed from both my Etsy and Artfire shops before I make them active again. Only my Vintage sewing patterns and other Vintage items will remain unaffected. Any jewelry items, accessories, or other handmade items of mine will be subject to removal if I sell them at the show.

Well, I'm off back to work. Have a great Friday everyone, TGIF! :D
It's been a long week for me and as Fall approaches so does the impending date of my very first craft show. While exciting I am so nervous. There is so much that I still need to do, items that need to be made, and supplies that need to be purchased.

I have had to contend with juggling my day job with working on the shop and things have gotten pushed aside. I'll definitely need to do more now on the days I have off and the time I have before I need to head to work at the day job so I can get things ready. Wish me luck!

What are you preparing for this fall? Are you doing any craft shows? Please comment on this post and let me know! I love hearing from others whether or not you follow my blog. :)

And to kick off this weekend with a bang I'm going to be offering 15% off everything in the shop, both sewing patterns AND jewelry! Use the coupon code SWEETSEPT when you check out to get the discount. The same code applies to both my Artfire and Etsy shops. The code will expire Monday night at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard time. Don't miss it!

Now I'm off to clean up my work space so I can get to listing some new pieces. :)
I have always been more into drawing and within recent years creating handmade items like jewelry and accessories. But one thing I have a huge respect for is photography. It has always been an art form that has somewhat eluded me in the past. As time has gone on I continue to improve especially now that I must take crisp, clear photos of my jewelry and vintage items when I list them in my online studios and social networking sites.

I admit, I envy photographers that sell prints because it is something I have always wanted to do but never had the true talent to achieve. But this doesn't stop me from looking through shops and "ooh"ing and "ahh"ing over photos that grab my attention.

I really adore whimsical, and fantasy based or inspired artwork. But sometimes I can be pleasantly surprised and taken by imagery of very real life things or people.

Congrats to Maureen for winning. :)

That said there are some things I need to say to clear the air, as this giveaway has upset me a bit in regard to how some people have acted.

For the future I may need to rethink my giveaway strategy. I was a little disappointed with the very small turn out but to be fair it was a very spontaneous giveaway with little notice. There was also some big squabbling that went on after I started receiving entries so I may not offer my giveaways to include friends and family in the future. I can also just run all of my giveaways using rafflecopter.

As a reminder to anyone participating in future giveaways, please make sure that you read all of the rules thoroughly. I let a lot of things slide this time because it was my first real giveaway. In the future I won't be issuing reminders to those entering if they don't follow all of the rules. Reading everything and all of the instructions is key!

I hope that for my future giveaways this sort of thing doesn't happen again or I may have to ban people from participating in my giveaways altogether and I don't want things to have to come down to that!

We are all adults, so I hope for the future we can all act as such.

I apologize for this mixed feelings blog update but these are things that needed to be said. I am going to try and enjoy the rest of my weekend before heading off to my day job tonight.

Don't forget, it's still Christmas in July at my shop so even if you didn't win the giveaway you can still get a great discount on all items in my shop through July 31st! Hop on over to my Etsy Studio or my Artfire Studio and use the coupon code XMASINJULY10 at checkout to get 10% off your entire order!

All of my fans be them on Facebook, Twitter, here on my blog, or anywhere else you are watching me and my customers are the ones that make it possible for me to do what I love. I know for me when I go shopping at other handmade, vintage, and supply shops on Etsy, Artfire, or anywhere else I love it when my order is given that personalized touch. I have bought items that came to be wrapped so beautifully and included little notes, thanks yous, business cards, and even coupons. I love knowing that the artisan and shop owner I am supporting has taken the time to stop and appreciate my business to them.

Orders are gift wrapped in colored tissue paper and sealed with festive stickers that I change around depending on the season and holiday at the time of purchase. A hand written note is also included to voice my thanks and to let you know just how much I appreciate your business. :) I also have been including my new business card with my orders for you to share with others.

Recently I had an order for two pairs of my grape cluster earrings. My customer was purchasing these for a friend of hers for her birthday. We talked on Etsy for a bit and I was given the go ahead to customize her order a little further. Polka dotted tissue paper was used to wrap the earrings and each package was sealed with some adorable birthday stickers.
Everything here is included for free with her purchase. I have stickers for just about every occasion and I am always looking for more. I definitely have a lot of fun wrapping my orders. It feels like Christmas to me, wrapping things up to send off to people. :) My hand written notes are also different for each order. I have many different note pads to use for this purpose. Someday I would love to have some stationary with my shop name on them.

Currently my vintage items are shipped in ways that maximize their safety with in the mailers. However, I can offer gift wrapping if asked. :)

What do you guys do for your customers? Do you offer gift wrap options or do you gift wrap everything, like I do? I'd love to hear what you guys do for your clientele.
